'Periyar' EVR & Deepavali: The countdown had started
'Periyar' EVR's interesting Tamil book ‘இந்து மதப்பண்டிகைகள்’ ( Hindu Festivals)
explained the socially negative aspects of celebrating deepavali.
The following news is an evidence that 'the
positive' efforts of 'Periyar' EVR , is now carried forward by the govts,
social activists & supreme court.
" The Bench,
however, pulled up the Centre for not publishing advertisements widely in the
media warning of health hazards and to follow regulations concerning noise
pollution.
The court further
reiterated its 2005 order prescribing time limit to avoid causing disturbance
to the public during "night time"."
Also in China, it
is worse, & almost the problem is worldwide. minus the developed countries
with restrictions, but no ban.
Also note that the
'Christmas', was originally a Pagan festival.

Social festivals
serve the multidimensional needs of the society.
Instead of
replacing the reasons behind the celebration of Deepavali & refining
the mode of celebration, 'Periyar' EVR blindly opposed it, like his opposition to the
Tamil language, heritage & culture, without identifying & removing the
negatives, if any.
Mother tongue,
heritage & culture including the festivals, serve the social needs, and
also undergo changes in accordance with the changing times. Those who , unaware
of their social roots & the social dynamics, attempt to disrupt them, even
with good intentions, will get alienated from the society, defeating their undoubtedly
good intentions, or due to their efforts, mother tongue, heritage & culture
will die.
Are Tamil language, heritage, & culture dying, or , undergoing changes
in accordance with the changing times? In either way, the countdown had started, in my view, with the English Medium play schools entering into even the remote villages in TN. After the countdown, Tamil, Tamils & Tamilnadu will be unbelievably different, up or down.
