How E.V.R’s anti-Tamil and C.N.A’s pro-Tamil created
a new kind of language drug, killing innumerable youth from the poor Tamils, Tamil & Tamil Music?
Nowhere in this world one can
come across two leaders; one anti-mother tongue & the other pro-mother
tongue, but claiming to be a double-barreled shotgun in ideology.
Splitting ‘Dravidar Kazhagam’ (DK, a non-political party,) led by E.V.Ramasamy (E.V.R), C.N.Annadurai (C.N.A) started DMK as a political party and declared that both the parties would function like a double-barreled shotgun in ideology. In 1967 C.N.A became the chief minister of Tamilnadu (TN) and travelled in the opposite direction with respect to Tamil; like oppositely directed double-barreled shotgun.
As CM, C.N.A erected statues for ancient Tamil poets in Chennai, including ‘Kambar’ who authored ‘KambarAmAyaNam’. Earlier C.N.A had propagated the need for burning ‘KambarAmAyaNam’, concurring with EVR. Both EVR and C.N.A were demanding the separation of Tamilnadu from India. To the best of my knowledge, C.N.A did not offer any meaningful explanation for reversing his stand and erecting the statue, honoring Kambar.
In his book ‘“தாய்ப் பால் பைத்தியம்(mother tongue madness), E.V.Ramasamy (E.V.R) explained his reasons for branding Tamil as a ‘barbarian language’ (காட்டுமிராண்டி மொழி), and why the progress of Tamils needed the replacement of Tamil by English.
Unfortunately, the Tamil scholars close to E.V.R failed to refute his arguments against the ancient Tamil texts. Hence the unbelievable social energy developed by E.V.R damaged Tamil & Tamil identity, while encouraging anti-India identity.
While the precolonial diverse identity all over in India was undergoing the transformation towards the anti-colonial Indian identity, Tamilnadu witnessed anti-India identity with the ambiguous ‘Dravidar, Dravida, (oppositely directed double-barreled shotgun) Tamil’ identity.
The contribution of Rajaji as the Chief Minister in 1937 thorough compulsory Hindi in schools for the eruption of the separatist demand in TN, deserved serious attention. Before Independence Rajaji supported the ‘Dravida Nadu Separation’ demand of EVR.

After Independence, in the 1952 general election of the Madras Presidency, the Congress Party contested in 367 seats and won 152. MuthuRamalinga Devar, a staunch pro- INA nationalist tried to form the govt, grouping all non-congress MLAs. No surprise; from Mudukulaththur to recent anti-caste riots in TN; after the declassification of the documents with the intelligence agencies in India and abroad, hidden truths come out exonerating MuthuRamalinga Devar, a victim of the then PM Nehru’s conspiracy, from anti-dalit label.

Hence the 1965 anti-Hindi agitation marked the irrelevance of EVR in TN political scene. Hence in 1967, C.N.A became the C.M of TN. After his death in 1969, Karunanidhi succeeded him and transformed DMK into his family party.
From 1967 till the death of EVR, DK and DMK functioned like the oppositely directed double-barreled shotgun with respect to Tamil.
The Tamil identity bungling of EVR benefited DMK to appropriate the social energy of E.V.R, and subjugate anti-India Tamil identity to selfish political interests of DMK.
Fooled by the colonial mischief of the semantic distortion of the Tamil word ‘inam’ (இனம்), replacing the original meaning with the racial anti-Brahmin meaning, both EVR & C.N.A strengthened anti-India identity with the ambiguous ‘Dravidar, Dravida, Tamil’ identity.
The anti-India Tamil identity, divorced the Tamil intellectual dimension, encouraging emotional opposition to Sanskrit, identifying Sanskrit only with Vedas & Brahmins. Probably had E.V.R been aware that of all the ancient languages including Tamil, “Sanskrit and Pali have a larger atheistic and agnostic literature than any other classical language” ( Page 35, ‘Identity and Violence’ by Amartya Sen), he might not have encouraged the anti-Sanskrit phobia in Tamilnadu.
But for this development, Karunanidhi could not have succeeded in sidelining real Tamil scholars, subjugating Tamil to serve his selfish interests. During his last period as CM, posters depicting great ancient Tamil poets TholkAppiar, Thiruvalluvar, and Ilango standing & saluting Karunanidhi in sitting posture; later enacted in the stage at Valluvar Kottam, Chennai. There were no protests, confirming the subjugation of Tamil & pro-Tamil scholars and forums.
Students involved in the1965 anti-Hindi agitation were Tamil medium educated. They would not have tolerated the above nonsense. Now most of the college students of Tamil families were English medium educated, and could not fluently read and write in Tamil. Hence there were no student protests against the above nonsense.
Also, the following may also be a reason for Karunanidhi’s foolish courage to indulge in the above mockery.
The period of M.G.R as CM of TN witnessed the weakening of the DMK’s subjugated anti-India Tamil identity, benefitting Tamil in many ways including a role model university for Tamil. Jayalalitha (JJ) as CM, derailed it by imprisoning herself in Sasikala family, facilitating Sasikala’s husband Natarajan to emerge as a pro-Tamil patron, fooling anti-Karunanidhi Tamil scholars. My efforts to draw the attention of JJ to my ThirukkuRaL related research could not succeed for the same reason. Since my research proved the pitfalls in Karunanidhi’s ThirukkuRaL commentary, Sasikala- Natarajan with probable secret links with Karunanidhi, might have played a mischievous role, I suspected.
